As many of us head back to the office1, I’ve been looking into workspace styles employed by an old friend of mine, Ms. Barbara Millicent Roberts.
This desk isn’t exactly ergonomically friendly, but it’s definitely an attention-grabber.
It was challenging to find the name of this set. It’s a home on one side and office on the other. Barbie’s pulling double-duty! I hope her kids leave her alone during conference calls.
Here is the commercial:
And a modern look at it:
The Barbie shown with the set was Day to Night Barbie, who was packaged with both a “work” outfit and an “evening” outfit. The work outfit featured an inexplicably large hat. Very few people use briefcases anymore (but some still do). I have never seen a pink briefcase.
I appreciate the juxtaposition of the hidden “computer” (“why” the “quotes”) next to the feather pen.
The computer is a stamp! The chair is a magnifying glass! The pennant is a paper clip! My god, what more could you need? The whole dang thing is pulling double duty.
It comes with a scoop for the fish AND a fax machine. The desk has evolved to house a keyboard tray. Check out that new-age chair!
This resembles my current home office, EXCEPT:
Instead of a ‘B’ lamp, it’s my husband’s panther lamp from when he was a kid
Instead of a plant, it’s a glass rose bowl filled with cool rocks because the cat eats everything
Instead of a cute kitty clock, it’s this drawing that my son made:
Is anyone else jacked as heck for the new Barbie movie?
A gentle reminder that nobody is going “back to work” - we never stopped working
Oh my god I am having visceral flashbacks because I owned Day to Night Barbie!!!!! I remember that exact skirt suit (it was soft and velvety fabric) and the gauzy scarf and stupid hat and the inexplicable cocktail dress underneath. God bless capitalism.
This girl is somehow still late to work, and never in a dress + hat combo!
This B.M. Icon is inspiring me. I *can* do anything!
